Overview

The closest fit for an Arab student, in language and environment

Arabic as a language of instruction on a number of programmes makes the transition easier, and the campus environment is ordered and conservative. Entry is competitive and places are limited, so start early.

Highlights

Why IIUM?

  • Sponsored by governments, not just one state

Its establishment order followed an exchange of diplomatic notes between the Malaysian government, a number of Muslim governments and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference — international in the institutional sense, not the marketing one.

  • Taught in Arabic and English

One of very few universities in Malaysia with Arabic as an official language of instruction alongside English — which softens the transition for many Arab students.

  • Fourteen kulliyyahs across three campuses

Gombak holds engineering, law, economics, ICT, architecture, education and Islamic revealed knowledge; Kuantan holds medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and allied health; Pagoh holds sustainable tourism and contemporary languages.

  • Specialised research institutes

Among them the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilisation (ISTAC), the International Institute for Halal Research and Training, and the IIUM Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance.
